How to use the Laugh Maine Dictionary: Find the word you are looking for. I tried to put them in alphabetical order but got really confused.  Once you have located the word, immediately after the word you will find one or more of the following: 1). the proper pronunciation - by Maine standards, which is the proper way 2). its' meaning - not necessarily true either, and  3). how to properly use the word in a sentence, 4). if you see this: ( dunno ), that means we are as clueless as you - so shut up and leave us alone.

Atom - 1.) at - um  2.) a term used to describe an act by an old haggard woman from the back woods of Maine.  3.) She nags the old man and she nags all 13 kids. She's been atom all day long.

Atomize - 1.) at-um-ize  2.) a form of the word atom. Used as a more explicit term to describe the same action of the old woman.  3.) Not only has she been atom all day, she been atomize(eyes) too.

Atrophy -  1.) a-trofee  2.) an object that represents the accomplishments of someone who did better than someone else  3.) Fred went and got himself "atrophy" at the spittin contest at the Fryeburg Fair

Aura -  1. aw-ah  2.) a word used many times by Mainers as a transition to the second part of a bold statement or sometimes in part of a threat by the old lady  3.) Ah you gonna git up off your ass and git some fiyah wood "aura" you gonna let me slap you up side the head?
